CMU: revival and renaissance? The Capital Markets Union is one of the key pillars of the Juncker plan to boost jobs, growth and investment across the EU. Some of its actions have materialised fairly rapidly, such as the new rules on securitisation and on cross-border distribution of investment funds, but the action plan is widely considered as «unfinished business». The experts on this panel take stock of the original action plan, zoom in on some of the refocussed priorities from the 2017 mid-term review and dive into the recent recommendations by the High-Level Forum. UK/EU relationship post-December and implications for their respective fund industriesWith an agreed trade deal looking almost impossible to achieve, the June deadline for agreeing “equivalence” missed, and the option of an extension to the Withdrawal Agreement declined, are we left with an inevitable “hard Brexit” after all? If so, what does that mean for the UK and Luxembourg fund industries? Is there a danger of renewed scrutiny of delegation arrangements? How will Luxembourg funds access the UK post-December? CEO interview: active management – a c-suite perspectiveActive management has been under scrutiny recently, with challenges around value assessments and “benchmark hugging”. How is the active manager responding? Does the post-Covid-19 world offer a generational opportunity for active managers to deliver superior investment returns? How can the commercial bargain between investor and asset manager be more balanced through fee innovation? How important is ESG to the future active manager proposition? What strategies are active managers now pursuing to reposition themselves and offer better value for money?
