
Burkhard Balz was elected
Member of the European Parliament in June 2009 and re-elected for a second term in May 2014, representing the German centre-right Christian-Democratic Union CDU in the largest political group of the European Parliament, the
European People's Party (EPP). Since 2009 he has been a full Member of the
Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee. He was appointed EPP Coordinator in July 2014. In this capacity he acts as the spokesperson for economic and financial services, economic governance and monetary policies as well as on the European framework for competition law and tax policies.
