Christian Engelen works for the Directorate-General Economic and Financial Affairs (DG ECFIN) of the European Commission in Brussels. He is Deputy Head of the Unit dealing inter alia with topics related to the European framework for financial crisis management, including stability mechanisms such as the European Stability Mechanism (ESM), and the institutional framework of monetary policy. Prior to working in DG ECFIN, he was dealing with macro-prudential policies as well as financial supervision and regulation in Directorate-General Financial Stability, Financial Services and Capital Markets Union (DG FISMA). He has worked for more than six years in the financial stability department of Deutsche Bundesbank in Frankfurt before joining the Commission on topics related to global financial stability and international monetary policy discussions. Christian Engelen holds a PhD in Economics from University of Passau, a LL.M. in Finance from the Institute for Law and Finance (ILF) at Goethe-University Frankfurt and is a CFA Charterholder.
